Homemade Bread Recipe

White Scribbled Underline

INGREDIENTS

– 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour (plus extra for kneading) – 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast – 1 1/2 cups (355ml) warm water (around 110°F or 45°C) – 2 tablespoons (25g) granulated sugar – 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil or melted butter – 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Activate the Yeast:

In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

1

Mix the Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil or melted butter.

2

Knead the Dough:

Lightly flour a clean work surface. Transfer the dough onto the floured surface and knead it for about 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

3

First Rise:

Grease a large bowl with olive oil and place the kneaded dough in the bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap.

4

Shape the Dough:

Once the dough has doubled in size, gently punch it down to release the air. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and shape it into a loaf or desired shape.

5

Second Rise:

Place the shaped dough onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet or into a greased loaf pan.

6

Preheat the Oven:

Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

7

Bake the Bread:

Once the dough has risen for the second time, remove the covering. Optionally, slash the top of the loaf with a sharp knife or razor blade to allow for expansion.
